There can be few fine arts societies who were established by such a group of distinguished artists. Dumfries and Galloway Fine Arts Society (DAGFAS) started life in 1922 and resulted from the renowned artists colony of Kirkcudbrightshire at the turn of the 19th century. In an effort to promote their work Hornel, Oppenheimer, E.A.Taylor and Jessie M. King, with others, established the Society. Today the Society has similar objectives of promoting members work but additionally encourages wide participation in the arts and crafts. We are delighted to hear from anyone interested in becoming a member and younger members are particularly welcome as the Society strives to keep up with the changing art world. The major selected Summer Exhibition is held in July each year and will exhibit 300 or more works. A smaller Winter Exhibition is unselected and allows members to exhibit two works. The Society provides a winter programme of six demonstrations and talks given by professional artists and a summer programme of member painting days tutored by professional artists. We have over three hundred members which include people starting out on a new interest and hobby to those who are full time professionals. You can be certain of a warm welcome and great encouragement.

12th March - CHANGE IN PROGRAMME
Unfortunately Mary Cornwallis is unable to demonstrate to us on the 12th March because of family illness. We hope to be able to arrange an alternative date next year.
William Spurling, who teaches at the D & G College and who has recently returned from Finland looking at the work of Finnish artists has very kindly agreed to fill the gap at short notice.
Look forward to seeing you at Gracefield Studios at 7.30pm on Friday 12th March
